Downgrading from Plus to Starter?

I'm aware that it isn't possible to downgrade from a paid plan to Free, but is it possible to downgrade from a higher paid plan to a lower paid plan, in this case from the Plus Plan to Starter?

Our network has shrunk considerably over the past couple of years, with many members leaving (Facebook is drawing many of them away), and we now have a much smaller core of regular members. It has become very difficult asking the smaller membership to make up almost $200 in donations for the annual Spruz fee, but less than $50 for the Starter Plan should present no problem. The smaller number of members should also need fewer resources.

Is it possible to do this?

  • Hi Phil!  If you look over to the left you will see where it says. "Support Request."  I suggest you send a Support Request and explain exactly what you typed here.  They really worked with me when I began AND there are times when I still go to them (support).  Good luck! :-)

  • Thanks Cautious. I'll certainly give that a try if the donations drive doesn't come up trumps in the next few weeks. I can't afford to pay that kind of money on my own, and it's always been a collective effort with our group, who have contributed generously in the past. But the numbers have declined so much over the last couple of years that getting enough donations to help pay the bill has become a problem. If we get the funds, I'd prefer to stay on the current plan, as the lower plan would leave us very tight on storage space and having to jettison about 250 members. But last year was a close call with donations, so I'm a bit worried about this year. Deadline isn't until the end of the month, so I'll wait and see how it goes in the next couple of weeks. If things fall flat, I'll take your advice. Many thanks.

  • My pleasure Phil.  Whatever you do, don't wait until the last moment.  I understand on the storage space.  I have a posting site and I have to go in and personal delete many things to not go over my alloted amount.  I even have my members (we're very small) to delete their own page comments since they are done one by one.  However, we're still together.  I'm not sure what kind of group/site you have BUT you must do what is best for you financially.  Hopefully, your faithful members will support you.  All my best to you Phil.

  • Hi Cautious - It seems that we're okay for another year. A small group of us each chipped in decent-sized donations and it ended up covering the $241 that we needed for the Plus Plan fee plus a few extras such as the chat rooms. We've come to the conclusion that the current plan is the one we would prefer to remain on, as it lets us do what we like with enough space to expand with comfort. Going back to a lower plan would be too restrictive and would leave us having to delete two thirds of our files and two thirds of our membership, which none of us found acceptable.

I know that 90%+ of our overall membership doesn't seem to be active at all, and many seem to have drifted off permanently to Facebook, but the rest of us are determined to keep our own little oasis in the internet going, at whatever cost. I wouldn't have been able to foot the entire bill myself, but when a group of us get together and pay a quarter of the bill each, that's something I can live with. There are several older members who are not on Facebook and have absolutely NO intention of joining it, so our little community on Spruz (FanCentral.us) is their primary online meeting place. These are the loyal people most determined to pay to keep the place going, so many, many thanks to them.

Many thanks again for your help, and good luck to you.

  • That's wonderful Phil!  I'm so proud for you.  That's what it's all about... good ole' Team work:-)  If you don't mind me asking, just what is, "FanCentral.us?"  In other words, what is your platform about?  Don't mind me, just curious:-)  Again... Congrats and may your tomorrows be full of promise.  Take care Phil and it was a pleasure.

  • Hi Cautious... yeah, the rest of the guys stepped up to the plate when their help was needed. A small but wonderful bunch of people. FanCentral.us is, basically, a small geek network. Fans of Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who and lots of other sci-fi series hang out there, and there are also groups for comic books, real books and other stuff. It was quite a busy little place up until a couple of years back, when quite a few of the more prolific participants seemed to drift off to Facebook and set up their own groups there.

Without these guys, our little network has become pretty quiet, with only about a dozen active members participating on a regular basis. Not a lot, considering there are about 400 registered members, most of whom never participate at all. It seems that Facebook is killing off a lot of smaller internet communities, which is sad. At least there are a few old die-hards on our network who refuse to let it die. God love them all!

  • Hi Phil!  Sorry it has taken me so long to get back with you.  Personal life matters have been knocking on my door.

Geek?  Aw come on now, I like Star Trek and Star Wars myself and I'm not a geek (questioning self).  I'm not an admirer of FaceBook at all!  I was once on there for 2 weeks and during that time, someone stole my identity andddd I received a bug.  I couldn't wait to leave that place of bedlam!  However, you are right that many places not only FaceBook have seemed to strangle the life out of smaller communities.  I never wanted a large site.  I like the intimacy of knowing and trusting my members and they me.  In fact, I have met all of them but two.

To be honest, I don't know how long we'll be open.  I know for at least another year because it's already paid for.  Family and personal life issues seem to be a huge factor.  I respect and understand that as I have my own medical challenges that are taking the forefront.  That's life as bitter sweet as it can be.

It's great to know that you have 12 strong Team members Phil.  Be assured, quanity doesn't mean quality.  I would take "quality" over quanity any day of the week!  Continued success to you and FanCentral.us.

Stay In Touch My New Friend!
