How Does "Featured" Work?

How does "Featured" work?  I featured a member and then a Group but it doesn't show any recognition of either.  Therefore, what is the benefit of this option please?  Am I doing something wrong?

    The way featured works is through use of the member box elements mainly. When adding a member element to your site, there will be options regarding what you want to display in the element. Recent Members, Last Joined and etc... one of those options will be "featured". Featuring things, in turn, makes those things be tagged as options you can display later in elements you add.
