In the 1.51 update we have changed the way members work within a site. This update is designed to make understanding how members work with your Spruz powered website easier.

New Changes with the Member System:

#1 New scalable site security structure for members and groups that is based on a level policy of 0 thru 9. Level 0 is public access, Level 1 logged in valid user, with Level 9 giving full admin rights. This will give you greater control over your pages, and other areas as they become available.

#2 All site security and member management will be handled via the Member Management page. You can now search all members that have registered on your site and set access levels on your members.

#3 Group Members has been removed as a primary area and changed to be accessible only if you have the group members page added to your. Group members have been reserved to be used as an to store people that would have higher than normal access to your site. You can control the access level of those members by the group by default groups have an access level of 2. Group member security overrides any member security. The Group Members can be used for Family members, Staff or senior members of your group.

#4 Pages and Links – We have changed the access for those areas to work based on the access level you have assigned to your members. By default at page/link has an access level of 0. That means anyone with a higher access level then 0 will be able to see the link and access the page. If you wanted to make a private page that only logged in members can see, you will set the access level to 1. Level one by default will allow any registered member to login and see the link and the page after clicking the link.

#5 Member Management Page – You can now delete, ban, change, and lock member access from member management. We are also adding an email component in a future update to allow you to mass message or email all your site members.  You will also be able to view all your site members and search though them on this page.

#6 Other Admins cannot delete or remove the admin level of the Site Creator.

#7 People that already have Spruz Accounts that log into your site will automatically become a site member on your site. There will be additional permission options added in a future update to give you the ability to approve old registered accounts.

Some Future Additions that will be released in the near future:

#1 New Member Permission Policy Area – This will allow you to set your site as an invite only community and change other default permission settings to give you the ultimate control over your site permissions.

#2 New Scalable securities for Admin Areas, this will allow you to set the security of some sections to a slightly lower level. Thus allowing you to give some with lower access the ability to post only news on the site, while still limiting access to other areas.

A large part of this member update was needed in order to add additional frame work for the upcoming forum release. The new forums will be far more customizable and allow for greater moderator control of the forum threads.
