Which way is best

Which way is best for your web site. Having it private where no one can see the content of your site until they have registered or making it public for all to see content but they can not comment on any thing in the site from what your members have posted

  • Unless you are intending to be a very small specialized group such as Ardent Souls, do not make your site private!  You want the public you are trying to recruit to see as many pages as possible on your site, so they will be inspired to join you.

Also, wherever you post anything make absolutely sure your URL appears on every post.  Search engines relentlessly scan Spruz.com for the latest stuff, and your site will be picked up and indexed.

I linked one of our Ardent sites to a post here in My Spruz, and immediately got 108 unique visitors to the site from My Spruz, according to the server logs.

Errmm... By the way, what is your URL?

  • Thanks Sarah 1st i done the group public but they can not see what is in the content of the page meaning what some one has posted as the only thing they can see is the groups but nothing else

You can go to my site at petsnfriends.org

Also i have tried to let people see the content of each page but not sure how this is done as i figured out how to keep the site public and to see the groups that were made but nothing about what some one posted How can i do this so some one can see what some one has posted If this is what your referring to .

Also how can i do the  URL appears on every post as you stated wherever i post anything any where thanks

  • You want your URL to appear anywhere you can possibly insert it, and preferably as a live link such as petsnfriends.org, so that the searches will index it.  I'll check your site.

Okay, your home or landing page is just a login box.  Google is not good at logging in, so you're not going to get much recognition for that. Also, what is there on your home page that would inspire the casual browser to register as a member?

  • To Begin  Click: manage site-->settings-->manage settings-->to go to page titled: Website Information:  Near the top of the page, under the line:  Private or Public Website, be sure that the radio button for Public is selected.  If not, then select it and don't forget to click Save Changes at page bottom.

Next Click: manage site-->your site-->manage pages & links.  Under the word Navigation you see a list of pages on your site.  Go to your default landing page which is usually your Home page, and click Options at the far right.  That will give you this dialog:

The home page name here is still in Spanish, but you get the point.  Be sure that Viewing Access Level:  0 - Public, and Always show link: Yes are selected.  If not, select them, and don't forget to click Save Changes at page bottom and you're done. Click Save Page Order at bottom for a fast way off the page.  Now the search engines can find you, and index your home page.

Now, regarding permissions -- who can post and who can view:  Go to http://ardentsouls.spruz.com/, and select Blogs, Discussions, and Forums in turn.  Note how you can view, but not post on Blogs and Forums, but cannot even view Discussions.  Also note how I cleverly inserted our URL into the post.  Google and others will scan the My Spruz site and cache the page with our links on it.

Ardent Souls is not trying to drive viewers to our sites, but this is all part of it.  Set your permissions correctly and you don't have to worry about uninvited guests posting -- Good luck...
