Transfer Allowance

Q. What does transfer allowance mean?

A. Transfer allowance is a measurement of how much traffic your site can have within a given period of time. To help explain how transfer works and how to calculate how much you need, think about transfer like your electricity bill.

Each time anything is viewed on a website, that information is downloaded to your computer so you can see it. This goes the same for files and videos. Like electricity, as more data is transferred or more visitors are active on your website the meter is spinning faster and faster. Each visitor to your website uses some of the transfer allowance, and by adding up how much each visitor has used we get your total.

Anything that is viewed online transfers data to the clients computer. This goes for information uploaded from your computer to your website as well.

Q. Do videos or photos hosted on other websites such as YouTube or Imgur use up the transfer allowance?

A. No, because these files are hosted on other websites none of your transfer allowance is used! Loading the page does still use part of the transfer allowance, but the process of streaming the video to the user does not.

Q. Where can I see how of my transfer allowance I've used?

A. You can view your current usage by clicking the Information and Updates button on your Management Bar, located on the right hand side of the bar. Look for the section labeled as "Transfer Used for the month of XXXX".

Q. What is "EST Monthly Traffic Usage" found under Information and Updates?

A. This section shows you how much our system believes you'll use in a 30 day period. This will help you decide if your current plan is adequate for the amount of traffic you're currently receiving, acting as a warning signal if your current plan can not support your current traffic allowance.

Q. What happens if I hit my transfer allowance?

A. If you hit your transfer allowance in a 30 day period your site will be brought offline until you've selected a plan with a higher limit.

File Space

Q. What uses up my file space?

A. Only files uploaded directly from your computer will use up your file space. An example of this would be a picture of yourself you uploaded from your computer to use as your profile picture.

Q. Can I upload files?

A. Yes! We allow everyone to upload image files directly to their profile or photo page, which makes it easy to share with friends on your website. All upgraded sites have access to the Download page, File Manage and Music Player element to further expand the upload capability. Along with this we have an optional upgrade to allow for the uploading of videos directly from your computer to the website.

Q. Where can I see how much of my File Space limit I've used?

A. You can view your current usage by clicking the Information and Updates button on your Management Bar, located on the right hand side of the bar. Look for the section labeled as "File Space".

Q. How much file space is included?

A. Free sites are given 10MB of file space. Our upgrades can significantly increase this amount.
