Smilies

A couple of years ago i think, someone had updated how to add your own smilies. Then when they changed the discussions forum section, i forgot how to get there and change or add some smilies. I love emotes! Any idea where they go, or where that help thread is?

  • Click on "manage site>yoursite>file manager>theme>forums>smilies". Then you just need to upload the photos there.

This is no longer there, due to spruz updating the forums part of the SUI.

    Going into "Theme" you see:

     Go Up Directory

system_templates File folder  NA  2/15/2013 11:15:47 AM  Delete
     favicon.ico

    That's it, no forum folder.

  • That won't stop us tho' -- uploading smilies you have saved to your desktop is easy, and you can store them in something like an RTF box on your site if you have a free site, or just upload using file manager if you have a premium site.

Uploading this:    using this discussion's manager:

Generates a link for the image stored on this site:  /gfile/75r4!-!FIDIGG!-!zrzor45!-!ELQENMHI-NMJE-HGNN-MPPQ-GNHERQKHKIKH!-!72y1nq/80212727.png.  This is referred to the sites root directory, but you can add the absolute path:  http://my.spruz.com/gfile/75r4!-!FIDIGG!-!zrzor45!-!ELQENMHI-NMJE-HGNN-MPPQ-GNHERQKHKIKH!-!72y1nq/80212727.png..

And you can export it anywhere which you can see from clicking on the link..

  • Ahhh... I see where the confusion is now. I checked into this with a newer site, and the folder isn't there, so there is an alternative method that can be used.

What you'll need to do instead is, click on manage site, settings, manage settings, and then click on custom word filters. There you can create shortcuts to images like the following popular examples:

    :roflmao:

    You get the idea.

The way this is done is, you upload your images to your file manager. Personally I'd create a folder called smillies, and upload them all to that folder. Then, you copy the link for the image you want to use for :roflmao: by clicking on that image in the file manager and getting it's url. Then you go to your custom word filters, and you create a word filter for :roflmao: and you use the image tag with the image url you just copied included.

So the first box in the word filter is asking for the call, and would be :roflmao:

The second box is the one that will display a replacement of some sort. In that box would go the following:

<img src="Put your image url in between these quotes" />

Now, everytime someone types :roflmao, you have a picture that shows instead.

Takes a bit of work, but I prefer it myself.
