@Squirrels, I'm not really at liberty to say what happened to Scott as I don't really know enough to elaborate fully. It is my understanding from speaking with him personally that he won't be contributing much if any to the forums in the future.
@petsnfriends I don't know that my suggestion would bare a lot of weight to them, as I'm sure they have a plan and reason behind implementing the discussions feature. I'd say a good guess would be that they intend to finalize the replacement of the forums, and plan to do so by tweaking the discussions into advancement. Putting it to use would be a good way to test into what is needed.
I like that I have a popular vote and standing for President lol, and it pains me to say this as a result, but another thing to be considered is that this is a help forum, and some people use it as a sound off page when angry, as if it will produce a result of some sort. Since people like to find help in the archives, but instead find search results convoluted with both helpful topics as well as posts generally unrelated to a help forum and quite negative, that too may have been a governing factor. I can't speak for them personally on that, but myself, I have a help site for Spruz site owner's, and I would certainly rid my pages of any subject matter that met those conditions so that people find what they are looking for, and only what they are looking for.
Waiting for new features to come and knowing that they take resource and money to develop, we should all keep in mind that a positive outlook and image needs to be maintained for revenue to be generated fully. If we aren't all doing that, isn't it kind of like biting the hand that feeds us? Trust me when I say they want everyone's feedback, both negative and positive. Being constructive about it however, and using support tickets when there is an issue would be the best way to go.
I'm sure I've just been demoted to Mall Cop, but I just wanted to put this out there lol. I've put a lot of time over the past few years into looking out for "all" of us Spruz website owners, and assuredly keeping things positive is one thing that we can all do for each other.
