Platform Updates
Member System Improvements

As some of you now know, we have been working on some improvements to the member system. This includes a few fixes and a bit better administration over users. In our latest round of updates we wanted to work hard to locate a troubling issue that continues to be reported, some members keep getting logged out. This issue has been a hard one to troubleshoot and repair because of our difficulty in reproducing the problem. However we think we have located the cause and overhauled the member registration system to get it repaired.

One other part of this update included some changes to your member management page. We have renamed the link Member List to Manage Members in your management mode and added some new functionality.

On your Member Management page you will see the green edit icon has been replaced with an eye glass icon that now launches a micro profile with some improvements. When managing your member you can now view the files and file space that member is using, upload a profile pick for them, and if you are a premium member you will see their Email address and IP Address.

Thank you for your patience during this period as there were some unplanned issues that had popped up. But we worked them out and everything should be working good now. Remember if you see problems (BUGS) report them in a support ticket. Posting in the comments or forums will not resolve bugs.

Updated the Single Signin Window and other changes

We have applied an update to make the RPX window for single sign in transparent. Thus allowing it to match with your website better.

RPX now (www.rpxnow.com) allows you to offer alternate signup methods to future members of your website. For more info on Adding Single Sign on to your website please read our knowledge base article.

We have also corrected a problem pointing out that allowed people to post CSS into the shout box on profiles. This problem was corrected. The Member Shout box no longer allows any HTML to be posted when posting a shout.

Please remember, when you report problems to use, you not only help solve an issue you might be experiencing but you help others that use our platform as well. The proper way to report problem is via a support ticket. Support tickets allow us to properly track and resolve issues. Report all bugs in a support ticket.

Friendlier custom page URLs and other improvements applied today

Today we released a platform publish that has several improvements and fixes. Now when you add a new custom page you can set your own page name, thus no more http://yourdomain.com?display=longtext. The new page naming makes for a friendlier naming structure so that your pages can now be just http://yourdomain.com/mypage.htm or whatever you want to use.

We have made the following fixes:

  • Hopefully solved the problem with some IM messaging getting posted to the Live Shoutbox
  • Theme Modifier Fixes
  • Management Bar usability tweaks
  • New Site Stats Chrome/Safari/Webkit loading issues.
  • Fixed a problem when Adding Elements when in Site Offline Mode
  • Undocked Element “Snap to Grid” improvements.
  • Site Stats graphs covering manage bare menu issue.
  • Element Management performance improvements
  • Appearance Editor header height bug that effected people using a custom header.
  • Fixed a problem with linking for the top downloads element. This element should now link over to the downloads page correctly.
  • Corrected a display problem with the sorting box on the downloads page
  • We fixed a problem when adding more then one Blog Headline element to a page, headline elements after the first element would not display headlines

We appreciate you sending in your bug reports. In most cases when an issue is located, it not only corrects the problem for you, but other users of our website platform. Bugs can be typos, errors, dead links, styling glitches or just strange issues that occur under a certain set of conditions. With our support tickets you can track you issue, and we can compare issues to more effectively locate a real problem and correct it for everyone.

Instant Messaging Beta is ready!

Today we have applied a new platform update that adds a number of improvements and a new feature to your website. Instant messaging and Chat are the top requested feature every time we put out a poll about it or ask for feature feedback. So as a result of your feedback Chat and Instant Messaging was moved to the top of our development list and now the IM features are ready for you to use on your website! We will have a full chat room ready for you to try out in the next week or so.

The IM feature has its own settings page for customizing how IM works on your website.  The IM Footer bar gives some customization options such as displaying a search box, friends list, or displaying the option to go offline. In the future we will be adding Games, Announcements, and other options to that you can enable for use with the IM bar. Plus like all sections of your website the IM and Footer Bar can be fully customized with CSS.

Keep in mind the Instant Messaging Feature is being released as beta, thus you must enable it on your website you if you would like to use it. The IM settings are located in the Settings Menu when you are in your website management mode. IM may have bugs, problems, or cause unforeseen problems, but with your help by reporting bugs in a support ticket will help us fix problems for everyone. If you are not too keen on using beta features, then we recommend waiting a few weeks before enabling the IM features.

The management area Site Activity page has been given a face lift with new graphs to show statistical information about your network. This is a new enhancement that will be expanded upon over the next few months, but is a good start in showing you better insight into your websites activity.

Page load time and performance is a top priority for us at Spruz as we work on new features and improvements. We have made a number of core system adjustments to accommodate our growth to further insure quick page load times, some of these adjustment include fully removing old phased out systems that have been replaced by newer, better designed features.
